Kayak on the Ubaye River

A white water kayaking session uploaded by one of our users gives us the opportunity to talk a little about the Ubaye River near the village La Fresquiére.  We are in the French Alps, just few kms from the Italian border.

The part of the Ubaye river that passes by La Fresquiére is very large with high water and the river can flow over big rocks. If there is not plenty of water, this section present grade V rapids and becomes funnier to paddle into.

Going below La Fresquiére we can spot another interesting point of the river directly from the road.  This second part is a difficult one with low water and becomes a grade V when the water arises, with big rocks underneath, small gaps and very big stoppers.

So better not to understimate this part of the river as it could become very threatening and dangerous, especially with high water, or with logs floating on the river.
